Governance Overview

Learn how UNI holders govern Uniswap, what DUNI is, and where to continue with governance process and voting.

Treasury Allocation

Uniswap Governance was created in 2020 with the launch of the UNI token and, at that time, the treasury was allocated 40% of total UNI supply.

What is Uniswap Governance?

Uniswap Governance is a system that allows holders of the UNI token to collectively manage, upgrade, and steer the future of the Uniswap protocol.

Uniswap Governance has specific controls under its domain, including:

  • Spend funds from the treasury
  • Set and activate the protocol fee
  • Mint additional UNI, up to 2% of the total circulating supply annually

UNI holders participate in governance as voters, known as delegates. To vote, holders must first activate their voting rights by assigning their UNI voting power to an address. Any UNI holder can become a delegate by going through the delegation process. For more information, review the guide to voting.

DUNI

In August 2025, the Uniswap Foundation proposed that Uniswap Governance adopt a Wyoming-registered Decentralized Unincorporated Nonprofit Association (DUNA) as the legal structure for the Uniswap Governance protocol. This legal entity, called DUNI, was purpose-built to preserve Uniswap's decentralized governance structure while enabling engagement with the offchain world (for example, entering into contracts, retaining service providers, and fulfilling potential regulatory and tax responsibilities).

As a DUNA, the governance process did not change. Instead, it enabled protections for governance participants by introducing limited liability and compliant operations as a US-regulated entity.

To become a member of DUNI, hold UNI tokens and engage in Uniswap Governance (for example, delegate votes, post a proposal, or vote on a proposal). Membership is fluid, and there is no requirement to disclose personal identity information to become a member. DUNI does not collect, store, or report member data.

There is no minimum UNI requirement for membership. For example, if a holder has greater than 0 UNI and participates in the forum, that holder is a DUNI member.
