Guidestar Routing Beta

Posted: October 22, 2026

Guidestar, the new Uniswap routing engine, is now available in beta through the /quote endpoint of the API.

What is changing?

You can opt into Guidestar routing by adding two headers to your /quote request: x-api-experimental: true and x-universal-router-swapsteps: true. The request body is unchanged. During the beta, Guidestar supports same-chain EXACT_INPUT swaps on Ethereum (1), Base (8453), and Robinhood Chain (4663).

Guidestar quotes have the same response structure as standard CLASSIC quotes, with three differences:

FieldGuidestar quote
quote.swapStepsNew array describing the Universal Router swap sequence, in execution order
quote.routeEmpty array ([])
quote.routeStringFree-form summary text intended for debugging, not the standard path format

A Guidestar request does not fall back to standard routing. Requests outside the supported scope return an HTTP 400 InputValidationError, and supported requests that Guidestar cannot route return an HTTP 404. During the beta it is recommended that you request Guidestar routes in parallel with standard routing to avoid missing a quote.

Why is this changing?

Guidestar returns quotes with lower latency and improved execution quality over standard routing. Guidestar quotes execute through the same Universal Router and Permit2 contracts as standard quotes.

What do I need to do?

No change is required. Requests without the new headers continue to use standard routing.

To try Guidestar, add both headers to supported /quote requests. If you read route or routeString for display or validation, switch to swapSteps for Guidestar quotes. If a Guidestar request returns an error, retry it without the two headers to get a standard quote. The /swap request is unchanged.
